Movement
To improve your character's stats you have to walk across the mud, finding new places, new towns and you can also reach places defended by enemy races. When you leave zone, you'll enter map called overland where you will see forests, mountains, etc. like colorful letters (if you are using ansi mode - more info in 'help color').
There are some differences between walking between zones using the overland map and inside zones. You will find more detailed information below. By visiting zones you gain so-called travel points which you need for advancing over level 10.
Directions
To move around, type the direction you wish to move. A list of exits is displayed in the room description. The possible directions are often north, south, west, east, northwest, northeast, southwest, southeast, up, and down. You may also move in these directions by the use of n, s, w, e, nw, ne, sw, se, u, and d respectively.
However, pay close attention to those room descriptions because there may be secret exits or such actions possible in special rooms.
If there are door exits in the room and you need to pass through them, sometimes they require to be unlocked and/or opened. To unlock a door, type
unlock <door name>
To open them, type
open <door name>
The most used special directions (secret exits) are:
enter <something> and climb <somewhere>
To pass through an opened door, simply type the direction they are leading to or the door name.
You can move on your own feet or ride a mount. Walking costs you fatigue points. At times, you may run out of them and will need to regeneration them to be able to continue in your journey.
When you are riding, you simply use the same directions. When your mount gets tired, simply 'dismount' it and go on your own feet. You will find more detailed info about using mounts below.
Overland Map
Overland is an outward terrain map of the whole land of Kellwar. You can move in all cardinal directions (north, south, east, west). Each field represents a large area.
Note, that moving on overland map requires considerably more fatigue points than moving inside zones, it is better to use mounts rather than walking on your own. Also most of the abilities/spells/skills have different effect on overland.
Zones
Zone is a part of overland, it symbolizes location of some important place like town or caves of some race. On overland it is shown mostly as '*' or as special symbols described in 'help overland'.
When entering zone, some text will be scrolled on your screen with information of what you can see and which items/monsters are in your environment. Each “room” in zone represents much smaller area, sometimes it is only few meters. Note, that not each zone could be entered from each direction.
Zones are full of monsters, items and useful informations while on overland you can find this only rarely.
Size of zones is various - from small caves or valleys to huge cities or forests so don't be surprised.
It is good to read descriptions of rooms - you will be sure that you won't miss any important information.
Walking between rooms take fatigue points, amount depends on the terrain you are crossing.
You can ride a mount in zone, but it can't enter every place (for example caves or rooms) ridden by you, you may use command 'lead' to force it, but there are several places where your mount won't go, doesn't matter if led or ridden.
Command 'yell' echoes your words to each visitor of zone you are standing in even to the players of opposite side!
Using Mounts
Overland is a very large area and it is very common that your fatigue points are exhausted and you are forced to stay and rest or sleep to regenerate your fatigue points. To prevent this act it is good to a mount and ride it. To start riding a mount, type
ride <mount name> e.g. ride horse
To stop riding it, just type
dismount
There are many types of mounts on the Kellwar you can use but there are some restrictions. If you are darkie, you can ride only darkie mounts - the same with whitties. Details about allowed mounts for each race are here. Your mount must have proper size - you can't sit on the warg if you are big troll fighter simply because that poor warg will turn into a bloody mess if you will try it.
It can happen that your mount won't enter some place with you on its back. You can then dismount and lead it rather, so it will be still following you. To lead a mount, type
lead <mount name> or just lead (if you are riding it)
You can lead only one mount at the same time.
Note, that there are places like guilds where your mount will go neither mounted nor led. To leave your mount where it is and go alone, type
rid <mount name>
and it will stops following you.
Killing of a mount won't give any experience points.
Please note that many abilities can't be performed while you are riding a mount.
