Getting Started

First things first, our address is: wog.sk port 9990

Logging into the Game

When connecting to War of Gods, you're advised to pick a MUD client. Clients support colors, which enhances the gaming experience. Althought it is possible to connect using the standard windows telnet, we don't recommend using it for playing.

There are many MUD clients available on the internet. Here is a selection of our favorites:

  • PuTTY
Very small and basic telnet and ssh client. Completely free to use.
  • Zmud / Cmud for Windows
Very advanced and feature rich client designed specifically for playing MUDs.
  • KBtin for Unix
A free very heavily extended clone of well-known TinTin++ for Linux/Unix.
  • TinTin++
A free mud client that runs on all platforms.
  • TinyFugue for Unix
Proclaimed as the best Unix client to be found anywhere.

You can also use our web client. This is probably the easiest way to connect and play the game.

Choosing Your Name

Here at the War of Gods we promote a roleplaying environment. Because of this atmosphere, we do not allow just any name you may want. The names must fit the medieval fantasy theme of the game.

The name you choose will also represent you to everyone you meet in Kellwar, so choose wisely! Be aware of the naming policy so that you do not risk penalties such as having your character removed from the game.

If you have troubles to come up with a suitable fantasy name, try to find some name generator on the web.

Choosing Your Side

In the world of Kellwar, Followers of Light (or whitties) and Minions of Darkness (or darkies) are opposing sides fighting in a permanent war. Whitties and darkies can attack each other, but they are unable to communicate, create parties or clans. Thus, if you wish to play with your friends, make sure you select races that belong to the same side.

You can create both whittie and darkie characters, but they will be subject to certain restrictions like logging or multi-playing rules.

You can find the information about playable races here.

Creating Your Character

War of Gods uses a system of accounts to organize characters. Therefor in order to create a new character, you need to create an account first.

Create Your Account

After you make a successful connection to the mud, you are asked to enter the name of your account.

Once you have chosen a name you are asked to assign a password to the account so that only you can access this account and all character that belong to it.

Choosing Your Password

Add a password which you and only you know, and you'll be asked to confirm it. Choose something that's at least five characters long, don't pick something you use everywhere else, don't use something which you and your mates know, keep it personal and not easy to guess. You wouldn't want anyone logging in as you and getting your character into trouble now, would you?

Valid E-mail Address

You will also be given a prompt to add your email address to our database. We do not sell our email addresses to outside sources at all, and you need to provide a real address in the event you lose your password and also to help us to recognize your characters.

Create Your Character

After you have successfully created your account, you can enter the game using option 1 in the menu. Type a character name and to confirm it is the name you wish to use. Please choose one that's medieval in nature to fit the game theme, and avoid names that are real words or very common modern names.

Choosing a gender

Now you must choose the gender of your character. Either male or female. However this does not affect the game play at all.

Does your terminal support colors?

Next you have to choose if you wish to play in color. If you do not know if you can see color at this point choose 'Y' anyway. You can change this setting any time when you are in the game.

Choose a Race

Now you get to start building your character by choosing the race. Each race has unique abilities that make it different from others and also has strength and weaknesses related to your character statistics. The alignment of your character is based on the race you select. You can either play a whittie (good) side or a darkie (evil) side. There is a permanent war between whitties and darkies you will also be a part of and perhaps it will be you who will make the difference and give an advantage to either side.

Choose a Class

Once you have chosen your race you must choose which class you wish to be. The class is your characters job in the world and determines what type of features - skills/spells/abilities and traits you can use while you play. Each class is unique and also has strength and weaknesses and thus provides a different and unique game play.

Some races are more adept at certain classes than others and make for an easier playing experience. Depending on your play style you may opt for a more challenging race/class combination. Keep in mind however, that every race/class combination will offer you a rewarding and unique playing experience.

Roll Your Primary Stats

The next step is to roll your primary stats - strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom and charisma. The higher your stats the more powerful your character is. The results of the rolls are based on the race you chose above.

That's it. Now you will be thrust into the world of Kellwar. Please take a look at hints for newbies if you need a help to get started.
