Character
War of Gods offers many possibilities for creating and building your character as unique as possible. When creating a new character, you are asked to name your character. The name should fit the medieval fantasy theme of the game and we have a simple naming policy to ensure that character names are appropriate. After that, you are asked to select your character gender, race and class. Character's race also determines the side you will join. Besides that, each race is represented by maximal values of primary stats (strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom and charisma) and offers unique racial traits and bonuses and also certain classes available to them. Some races are more versatile while other are suitable only for playing specific classes.
Primary Stats
War of Gods uses a rolling method to generate character's primary stats at character creation. The maximum value of each stats depends on character's race and the relative relevance of each stat depends on the class of your character.
The summary of maximum values of primary stats of all races is here.
- Strength
A combat stat. Affects how hard you hit, how effectively you use heavy weapons and shields, how heavy weapons you may wield, and how much gear you may carry.
- Dexterity
Affects how often you hit, how hard you are to hit to a certain degree, and your dodging potential.
- Constitution
Affects your health, and how quickly you regenerate it. Your hit and fatigue points heavily depend on this stat.
- Intelligence
Important for mages and necromancers. Affects their maximum mana, spell casting capabilities and how quickly they regenerate mana. It also affects how quickly you learn new things.
- Wisdom
Important for all other magic-users. Affects their maximum mana, spells and how quickly they regenerate mana. It also determines how many learning points you gain per level and affects your saving-throws.
- Charisma
Affects how well you relate with others, influences your haggling and charming skills.
Combat Attributes
Combat attributes determine your success in combat. They are derived mainly from your primary stats such as strength and dexterity and can be modified by bonuses from skill, used equipment and/or spells effects. The relative relevance of each attribute depends on the class of your character. For example dodge is very important for thieves and fighters rely on absorbage to withstand attacks.
- Hit Points (HP)
Hit points (or health) represent your life and show how much damage (both physical and magical) you can take. When they drop below 0, your character dies. Amount of HP depends on constitution and level.
- Fatigue Points (FP)
Fatigue points represent your ability to move and perform abilities. Amount of FP depends on constitution.
- Mana
Mana (or spell points) is an expendable resource out of which magic users form their spells. Amount of mana depends mainly on class, intelligence (mages, necromancer, warlocks) or wisdom (other magic-users) and level.
- Attack
Attack bonus represent your ability to hit your target and deal damage. The type of weapon used and also the corresponding weapon skill determine your attack bonus which can be modified by dexterity(when you are using no, one-handed or ranged weapon) or strength (when you are using a twohanded weapon). For example the attack bonus (and thus the chance to hit) with a longsword is higher than with a twohanded club. But the success to hit your target also depends on your target's combat attributes like parry, dodge and block.
- Damage
When your attack is successful, you deal damage. The amount of damage dealt is determined by the type of weapon used (generally, twohanded weapons are superior to one handed damage-wise).
- Parry
Parry represent your ability to deflect attacks using your weapon(s). If you successfully parry an attack you take no damage. The type of weapon(s) used and also the corresponding weapon skill determine your parry bonus which is further modified by dexterity.
- Block
Block represent your ability to deflect attacks using your shield. If you successfully block an attack you take no damage. The type of shield used and also the shield block skill determine your block bonus which is further modified by strength.
- Dodge
The best way to avoid a blow is to not be where it lands. The chance is based off the dexterity and is significantly affected by the type of equipment worn and dodge skill, especially for thieves.
- Absorbage
When you fail to avoid a physical attack, absorbage determines how much damage you will receive. Absorbage reduces the damage and depends mainly on the equipment used.
- Saving Throws
Everytime you are about to receive magical damage, you get a saving throw to reduce or negate the effect. In War of Gods, magic resistances represent the ability to reduce the damage or effects and magic immunities represent the ability to completely negate or avoid them.
